Onion Force Review
by Boomchacle
In Onion force, with the guidance of the fairy “Lady D”, you fight enemies in a mix of the classical Tower defense game and the side scrolling RPG game. You may expect to see games like this on a website arcade due to its “flash game” like appearance.
This game was intended for mobile devices and it is unique in the fact that you have a character running around killing the enemies in addition to having towers that can kill them for you. This game might remind you of games like “Realm Of The Mad God” mixed with a bit of Kingdom Rush.
One major difference is that your character is able to run around and kill enemies independently of the towers. Because your character can move around and support struggling areas, they get more control over the battlefield than most tower defense games. You can strategically get around the lines the enemies have to go through to place yourself in front of them for easy kills. As a bonus the three basic heroes that you can play as are fairly easy to use.
The animation is decent and the art style is very nice to look at. It looks like someone spent a decent amount of time and effort drawing the figures and their animations. The sound in this game is what you would expect from a high quality flash game and, while repetitive, is not annoying. It does its job and creates a certain ambiance that separates the zones of levels from each other. You will quickly stop noticing it due to your concentration on the fast paced levels. If the music does happens to annoy you, you can turn it down without turning the effects down.
This game costs 5 dollars and, in my opinion, it is not worth it to buy. It is only marginally better than similar titles. There are a lot of free games that you could be playing that have more content in them. This game is fun to play, and can be challenging, but it is only fun for about an hour before the repetition gets on your nerves. All of the levels are basically longer versions of the previous ones, with a few new enemies and towers. If you want to progress, you have to grind the old levels on a harder difficulty to get more stars to upgrade your towers. This quickly gets old as you have already played 5 similar levels and then have to play an easier one again. In Onion Force’s favor there are no in game purchases and they did not make the grind incredibly long and hard.
Overall, this game is essentially a high quality flash game that costs money to be able to play it. It is fun to play for a while, but the price is pretty high for what you get.
